August Alliance, as the name suggests, is a multi-ethnic social platform that was formed to serve as a vehicle and a unifying force to promote a sense of family, community, and camaraderie among members for the purpose of addressing common problems and promoting social interactions. Membership is open all without limitation to race, gender, religion, social or professional background. In line with this spirit of fraternity and unity, we chose a motto that aptly describes in Latin, what we stand for: UNITAS EST FORTITUDO meaning, “Unity Is Strength” The need for August Alliance became apparent following a tragic event that befell a member of our community in 2015, an event that sought to highlight and remind us of not only the fragility of the human life, but also our common humanity and destiny, and how inextricably intertwined our fortunes are. As never before, and more than anything that our personal experiences had brought us face to face with, it was the most profound rude awakening that any of us present had ever experienced. As we sought a final resting place for the mortal remains of our fallen comrade, we became convinced that the spirit of brotherhood and humanity that brought us together on that fateful day should never be allowed to extinguish in vain; rather it became a clarion call to continue in this unifying front to support one another. It was a call to duty to one another, a wake-up call, and a reminder that the fleeting nature of the human experience allows us no room to take life for granted. From this unpalatable experience with its invaluable lesson, August Alliance was born.August Alliance seeks to not only help “sweeten life`s bitter pill”, it also provides a platform for social interactions and merry making. As the saying goes, “all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy”. In other words, the Alliance is not all about “doom and gloom”, but it also seeks to create an avenue and opportunity for having fun. It seeks to leverage the unique backgrounds and expertise of its members for the benefit of all members. As part of our social responsibilities, Alliance members also hope to engage in voluntary activities that will benefit our local communities. In the spirit of UNITAS EST FORTITUDO, August Alliance is born, and we hope that it will serve as the vehicle for promoting the lofty goals it set out to achieve. It is our hope that members will find in the Alliance, an invaluable social platform to promote the afore-mentioned mission, beyond our wildest expectations.
